This weekend, Liz and I went to see Shine a Light at the new IMAX theater near our place. It rocks, seriously. Hadn’t seen an actual (read: entertainment) movie in IMAX before; I’d just seen a documentary previously. Anyway, it was obviously a Scorsese film, which was cool, and the set list is rad (lots of less-popular tracks, with a smattering of the hits (naturally). Go see it, if you can. Definitely worth the price. (Incidentally, the new theater near us features self-service/free-refills of all sizes of drinks, so that’s cool…they also have a full bar and a crazy ice cream shop.)

I also finally got around to posting some pictures from as far back as October 2006. Here they are, in chronological order:

Pictures from Las Vegas, October 2006

Highlights:

Fountains at the Bellagio

A lot of the photos from these sets have been added to my new photoblog.

Liz and I went on two trips recently, and we actually remembered to 1) bring the camera and 2) take pictures. February 27 - March 2, I was in Philadelphia for a conference and Liz came up for the weekend. It was a lot of fun; there was a Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art that was really good, and we also saw a Star Wars exhibit at the Franklin Institute. We saw a lot of historical things, too, and we plan to go back to see more.

Here are all of our Philadelphia photos, here are our pictures from the Star Wars exhibit, and here are a few of the good ones. (More to follow in later posts, most likely.)

The following weekend, we went to Texas Fear Fest in Dallas. They screened some old horror movies and had lots of panels with actors/directors/writers/etc. We got some pictures and autographs there, too.

Yes, Kane Hodder was actually choking me, and his hands are strong. My neck hurt for the rest of the day.

going to the LBK tomorrow for my h.s. class reunion, staying until wednesday 8/1. visiting my dad and liz’s mom after the reunion, also going to our favorite LBK restaurants that don’t exist in h-town. staying with seth and tara that night, then back to houston for half a day or so before we fly out to vegas for the weekend.

went to see the burden brothers in beaumont last weekend. it was rad. i believe that we’ve now seen them in seven cities, which is cool; it’s been something like 9 or 10 shows total. more on that, including pictures, sometime soonish.

i’ll see most of the people who might read this in the LBK this week; aww yeah.

cross-posted from the chach-list:

i want to thank everyone again for their thoughts and prayers. i appreciate all of the kind e-mails and phone calls. i also appreciate those of you who made the trip to lubbock for the funeral (and those of you who live there already that came to the service). my dad also remarked to me about how nice he thought it was that so many of my friends were there to support us, whether by their calls, e-mails, or their presence.

liz and i are back in houston now, gotta get back to normal. this past week sucked, but parts of it were nice (catching up with friends and family and such). it’s nice to know that i have such good friends. thank you guys for everything.

thanks to seth (+ tara), oscar, mick (+ family), and mike (+gf) for coming out with us when we were there, too. that was fun. we’ll have to do that again under better circumstances, maybe at xmas.

take care.

as posted on the chach-o-rama list

yo.

chaches in lubbock…liz and i will be there this week and maybe beyond. we’re driving in, leaving here early tomorrow morning, so we’ll be there tomorrow late afternoon/early evening. please excuse the rambling nature of the below paragraphs…it’s been a shitty day.

the reason for this trip is because my mom passed away earlier today, very suddenly. for those of you who don’t know, she’s had lymphoma since 1987 and has been in and out of remission several times. she’d actually just had a cat scan this week, and she was basically in remission. she’s also had heart problems since 2000, as a result of some of the cancer treatments she had in the late 1980s and early 1990s. but her heart condition has been under control for the last few years. according to my dad, she felt fine yesterday. then, she woke up this morning feeling bad (chest pains, dizziness). she convinced him to go to sunday school and she stayed home to sleep. he called her between sunday school and their church service and she didn’t answer, so he went home and found that she was really disoriented and was conscious, but wasn’t making much sense (same symptoms she’d had when she was really sick in 2000). he called 911 at around 11am and they took her to the hospital (UMC, i’m guessing). they restarted her heart with CPR 5 times and she passed at about 2pm. apparently, she had some kind of heart infection. as you can imagine, my whole family is pretty much in shock about this, since it was so sudden.

this is mostly for those of you that knew her (e.g. seth, oscar, noel, mick). my brother and his wife will be there, too. we’re not sure on the timing of the funeral and such yet; it’ll probably be late this coming week. for you lbk guys, we’ll likely be in the mood for beers or something on a night or two, just to get our minds off of stuff (independently of the service - it’d be nice to see friends in a non-funeral setting, and i really don’t expect any of you guys to go…i just wanted to let you know). also, for those of you (e.g. seth - actually, you’re probably the only one) whose parents knew her, please pass this on to them; i’m sure they’d like to know. i’ll post
the funeral info. here when i get it.

take care. again, sorry for the ramblings.
