check this out.

that’s right kids, godhatesfags.com (aka Westboro Baptist Church of topeka, kansas) is sponsoring protests in lubbock for all kinds of things on jan. 11. the oddest of which (i think) is the fact that the buddy holly center has a pair of elton john’s glasses on display. apparently, they’re also pissed about the fact that lubbock high is being pressured to allow a gay student organization use its facilities (my understanding of that situation, which i’ll admit is somewhat lacking). they’re also going to “picket fag-infested Texas Tech” and the “five Lubbock dog kennels masquerading as queer-friendly churches.”

the most disturbing thing, i think, will be the donation of a “monument to the Cause of God & Truth” in the form of a “plaque bearing the image of Matthew Shepard’s face” inscribed with the words “MATTHEW SHEPARD Entered Hell October 12, 1998 at age 21 In Defiance of God’s Warning.”

i’m hoping there will be counter-protests…i’m too lazy to organize, i guess…but i’d likely participate.

liz pointed out this political quiz to me: The Political Compass. Here are my results:

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -4.25
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.49

apparently, i’m slightly to the right economically (very slightly, actually) of the dalai lama, but i’m roughly on par with him on the authoritarian/libertarian scale.

this reminds me of another political quiz that i took a long time ago (and i took again just now). here’s my results from The world’s smallest political quiz:

“Your Personal Self-Government Score is 80%.
Your Economic Self-Government Score is 60%.”
80% personal self-government, 60% economic self-government

if i’m understanding them correctly, my results are basically the same on both of these quizzes. i guess that makes sense, though.

so, where do you people fall on either/both of these?
